What PIAAC measures?
The PIAAC Survey measures some skills used by individuals at work and in private life in three specific areas:
- problem solving in technology rich environments (the ability to find, chose, evaluate and use information when using a computer to solve problems);
- numeracy (the ability to use, interpret and communicate mathematical information and ideas);
- literacy (basic reading abilities, such as recognition of words, understanding of sentences and the ability to understand and use information from different texts).
Indirectly, the PIAAC Survey also researches some other skills, such as use of cognitive skills, interaction and social skills, physical skills and learning skills. The data are gathered using a questionnaire that includes the background questionnaire and tests.
